Digital Competences, Gamification and AI

This Erasmus+ professional development course offers educators a comprehensive
exploration of digital competences, gamification, and Artificial Intelligence (AI) in education,
equipping them with the knowledge, skills, and resources needed to create dynamic and
personalized learning experiences.

5-Day Course Program

Day 1: Foundations of Gamification and AI in Education

  • Networking and icebreakers: establishing an international learning community and
    mapping participants' digital competences.

  • Introduction to gamification: unpacking the core principles, behavioral psychology,
and motivation theories behind gamified teaching techniques.

  • The AI revolution in education: exploring how Artificial Intelligence is transforming
traditional teaching roles, personalized learning, and classroom dynamics.

  • Case studies and best practices: reviewing successful, real-world implementations of
gamification and educational AI across diverse European school settings.

Day 2: Designing Gamified Learning Experiences

  • Gamification mechanics deep-dive: exploring how to effectively utilize game elements
such as points, badges, leaderboards, storytelling, and progress tracking.

  • Practical design workshop: participants design customized, gamified learning
modules and activities tailored to their specific subject areas and age groups.

  • Peer review and constructive feedback: collaborative group sessions to test, refine,
and enhance each other's gamification designs.

  • Scaffolding challenge and reward: balancing task difficulty to maintain high student
    engagement without causing frustration.

Day 3: Harnessing AI Tools for Personalized Learning

  • Overview of AI-powered educational tools: exploring adaptive learning platforms,
intelligent tutoring systems, automated grading assistants, and generative AI.

  • Hands-on tech lab: participants experiment directly with AI tools relevant to their
disciplines, discovering ways to generate differentiated reading texts, exercises, and
    multimedia.

  • AI ethics in the classroom: facilitating critical discussions on data privacy, algorithmic
bias, academic integrity, and digital equity in school environments.

  • Workshop: leveraging AI to support neurodivergent students and manage
    mixed-ability classrooms efficiently.

Day 4: Gamification and AI Integration in Curriculum Development

  • Strategic curriculum planning: methodologies for seamlessly aligning gamified
activities and AI tools with official learning objectives and curriculum standards.

  • Interdisciplinary collaboration: exploring innovative ways to combine gamification and
AI across different academic subjects and grade levels.

  • Collaborative lesson design: participants work in small international teams to develop
a comprehensive sample lesson or unit plan integrating both gamification elements
    and AI technologies.

  • Practical trial runs: testing the newly developed digital lesson components within peer
    groups.

Day 5: Assessment, Reflection, and Future Collaboration

  • Evaluating gamified learning: exploring formative and summative assessment
methods to measure the impact of gamification on student motivation, learning
    outcomes, and knowledge retention.

  • Reflective practice: participants analyze their learning journey throughout the course
and consider practical ways to apply digital concepts within their personal teaching
    styles.

  • Action planning and "Idea Fair": finalizing and presenting individualized action plans
for implementing gamification and AI strategies in classrooms or institutions.

  • European networking: dedicated space for discussing future Erasmus+ cooperation,
eTwinning dissemination, and planning post-course collaborative projects.
