Designed exclusively for current and aspiring teachers of German as a Foreign Language
(Deutsch als Fremdsprache - DaF), this Erasmus+ professional development course bridges
the gap between traditional grammar-translation methods and modern, communicative, and
technology-driven instruction.

5-Day Course Program

Day 1: The Modern Communicative Approach & Task-Based Learning

  • Moving beyond the textbook: Introduction to Task-Based Language Teaching (TBLT)
    in the DaF classroom.

  • Practical strategies and classroom routines for maximizing target-language usage
    from day one.

  • Teaching German grammar implicitly vs. explicitly: turning complex grammar rules
    into engaging, interactive speaking tasks.

  • Collaborative workshop: designing a student-centred communicative lesson plan.
     

Day 2: Tech & AI in the DaF Classroom

  • Leveraging educational artificial intelligence to generate differentiated reading texts,
    dialogues, and tailored vocabulary exercises in seconds.

  • Exploring interactive platforms for gamified learning (e.g., Blooket, Quizlet, and
    interactive video tools).

  • Implementing digital portfolios and collaborative online writing spaces to boost
    student autonomy.

  • Hands-on practice: building a digital lesson toolkit tailored to your students' specific
    needs.
     

Day 3: Contemporary DACH Culture & Authentic Media

  • Moving beyond stereotypes: teaching the modern, multicultural reality of Germany,
    Austria, and Switzerland.

  • Using current DACH pop culture, music, youth slang (Jugendsprache), and current
    events to drive classroom engagement.

  • How to source, evaluate, and adapt real-world German podcasts, short films, and
    news media for learners from A1 to B2 levels.

  • Group project: creating a culture-driven, multimedia lesson module.
     

Day 4: Assessment, Differentiation, and Constructive Feedback

  • Balancing formative vs. summative assessment in modern language education.

  • Developing error correction strategies that build student fluency and confidence
    rather than speaking anxiety.

  • Differentiated instruction techniques: managing mixed-ability classrooms and
    supporting neurodivergent learners effectively.

  • Peer review and micro-teaching: testing out assessment techniques in practice.

     

Day 5: Course Synthesis, Project Presentations & Certification

  • "Idea Fair": Participants present their practical lesson projects and newly developed
    classroom materials for constructive peer and trainer feedback.

  • Final reflection session: synthesizing key methodological takeaways and establishing
    an individual action plan for the upcoming school year.

  • Exploring opportunities for international teacher networking and future Erasmus+
    school collaborations.

  • Official Awarding of Erasmus+ Certificates of Professional Development and concluding celebration.
